History Torque Dance began in 1998 as a choreographers collective founded by Erin Reck, Amelia Derezinski, Darrah Carr, and Bryan Carr. Now under the direction of Erin as Artistic Director, Torque Dance has had full seasons produced by Joyce SoHo and Dance in the Square. They have had work produced by The Pink Ribbons Project Houston at the Worthan Theater, Toronto Fringe Festivals, The Nutshell Festival, Main Event of the DanceNow Festival, Big Range Festival in Houston, and Estrogenius at Manhattan Theater Source, Raw Materials at Dance Space, Soaking WET, and Food For Thought at St. Marks. Erin, Amelia and Lynn Marie Ruse conceived and produced a monthly choreographer's showcase called Whats Moving Us. Each month selected artists perform their work and receive audience feedback. Torque Dance and John Jay College Theater produced Up! On the Roof, an evening of dance benefiting Kids of NYU Medical Center's Pediatric AIDS Program. Torque Dance, Randall Etheredge, and the Theater create a theatrical splendor on the two-tiered, 5000 square foot roof of John Jay College. Participating artists have been Doug Elkins Dance Company, Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel, Jeanine Durning, Freefall, Artichoke Dance, Paz Tanjuaquio, David Parker & the Bang Group, Gina Gibney Dance, and Buglisi/Foreman Dance Co., among others. We have collaborated with many extraordinary artists. Torque Dance has received grants from the Puffin Foundation and Manhattan Cultural Arts Foundation. |
